Welcome to another radio broadcast of the Masons Church of Christ. We'd also like to welcome you to come be with us. We will meet at 1020 this morning where the red roof building in Mason, Texas, heading out toward Fredericksburg on highway 87. I'd love love to have you come be with us. We'll, we'll have a full worship service. That is, we'll sing we'll pray. We'll give back to God. We'll study from God's word, we'll gather around the Lord's table. We we do what the first century church did every every first day of the week. We do that here and we'd love to have you come be with us. We're in. We're in the book of Ephesians. Paul's letter to the church at Ephesus. It's six chapter book, it's it's classic, Pauline.

It's Paul at his best. And we're in, we're in chapter four, we finished, we finished chapter three and got into chapter four and, and talked about the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. And we're going to, we're going to look at the seven ones. Starting in verse four, we're gonna look at the seven ones. Oh, in ES that are needed.

To bring about the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. So, Unity, Unity is a lot. A lot of people strive for unity. And, and it's a it's a wonderful thing. You want to be unified, you want to you want to have unity. But but you have to have ground rules. It can't be unity at all cost. You and there's no sitting down and deciding what we're going to what we're going to do. What we're going to what this group is going to give us what this group is going to going to take the the restoration movement of the churches of Christ, back 200 years ago, began as a a unity movement. There were there were as as there are today. There were many, many denominations, all all claiming to love Jesus, all claiming Christianity. But they were all different and different in doctrine, different in the way that they worshiped. Just there were differences which made them separate. They couldn't have unity. We see that today. We've got denominations everywhere they're on every street, every street corner, you'll have a different group. Claiming Christ, yes. But so different in their, in their doctrine in their practices in in what they do and and what they believe. Here is Paul, in Ephesians chapter four, verse three saying that we need to have the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. Interestingly enough, they didn't have the denominations at the time that he's writing this. The church was the church and it was the only church and there was there was one church and in you didn't have what we have today.

But the Holy Spirit through through the Apostle Paul is giving us you know that the God knew God knew what would happen in the future. God is omniscient. He's all knowing. He knows the future he can See it. So through through the apostle Paul, he's giving. He's given ground rules on bringing about that unity. He's given us ground rules. He's giving us seven ones. And these seven ones are the basis for the unity. These seven ones are a must, if you will, and the basis for the unity that Paul is prescribing here. Again, unity can, unity can be had in many different ways, give giving and taking and but that's not the unity. That's not the unity of the Spirit. The Holy Spirit has left us His word and has left us a way to know what he wants us to be, how He wants us to be, how He wants us to worship, how He wants us to, to believe. The Holy Spirit has left that for us. So the unity of the Spirit in that bond of peace is going to be described in the seven ones.

And we're going to read we're gonna read starting in verse four. There is one body one spirit, just as you were called to one hope at you're calling one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all and in you all. So those are the seven ones that I want to go through. I'm gonna go through one at a time. I don't know. I don't know how far we'll get today. We there's no it's just a couple of verses. But there's a lot a lot to unfold here. The seven ones are They're huge. So we'll start with number one here the body there is one body. What did he tell us three chapters ago, at the end of chapter one. The body is the church. When he says There is one body he says there is one church that's huge. That's so huge. And and it speaks right off the bat to what we're talking about. The town of Mason has some 1112 Maybe churches 11 or 12 different bodies.

That shouldn't be there's one body we've got the seven ones here to tell us how we can become one it'd be wonderful, wouldn't it? First of all, we need to begin by understanding that there's just one body there's just one church. Christ died for one church.

He died in paid for her with his blood didn t Acts chapter 20 Verse 28. Paid for her with his blood just how important how important is the one church it I mean Jesus paid for it with his life didn't he? bought her with his blood and he's got the right to say there's only one one body we we should all be one. We should all be unified. And I know folks who will say, well, well, we are we all love Jesus and, and we all realize that, that, that He died for us and He died for our sins and, and but that's about all we can agree on when you talk about this 11 or 12, that we have in the, in this 4000. Person County, like we may have 2800 in town now with the last census to have 12 different bodies is not, it's not it's not what God wants. He wants the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.

He wants us to be together he would want one body one church, so that one body while we're, while we're discussing the body it's a it's another one of his metaphors. And if you've, if you've listened to me and listen to our study, here, I bring that up anytime that word body comes up, we, we discuss it because it's so important. I think it was, I think it was last week or the week before that we discussed family didn't we, I think it was last week that we discussed family. And in a a term, a term that was used there in Ephesians, that the church was a family. Another metaphor, that it helps to describe the relationship that we should have, understanding the relationship a family should have well, the church that one body should, should be a family, they should they should have a familial relationship, they should be just like a, like a physical family. This would be the a spiritual family. You know, he, he talks about brothers and sisters. In so many cases, we're called brothers and sisters, just like a family. Right? This is a another metaphor. And it's it's the body. And he compares it to a physical body, a physical body, with with arms and legs and a head, in fingers and toes and all the all the member parts. A body has all of those different parts. And when all of those parts are working. In Union, there's our unity word again, if they're if they're working together, if they're unified, that body functions the way it's supposed to function isn't it? When, when some of the parts aren't doing their job, the body suffers as a result, doesn't it? And, and to that point, the, the, the New Testament in several different places, including Ephesians, we'll get we'll get to that in a moment speaks of that, each one of us being a body, a member of the body, a part a member part of the body. Is is how we're viewed how we're described. One, one person is a is a toe or a foot another is a knee and and the other is a hand. You've got one as a mouth, with with with the understanding that Christ is the head. So Christ is the head of the body and thus in charge of the body. You know there every every body part functions based upon the head, physically speaking, and in this case too, we get our, we get our marching orders from the head. And we're all those parts, and those parts come together.

And they they make the body function brother Kaufman describes the the final product, like, like an orchestra, he compares it to he compares that body and the way it functions and to, to an orchestra you if you ever go into to band practice you'll go in and, and, and that when they're warming up each each one of those pieces is doing something different. And it's It's total chaos, isn't it? If you've ever, if you've ever experienced that, you know, you know what I mean? That, you know just everybody's doing their own thing. And it's just, it's total chaos. But when, when it's brought together, it makes just beautiful, beautiful music. It's the same. He says it's the same with the body, the body, when it comes together, and when it functions. When each part does does its own part. It it brings about a beautiful product. You know another another point another point to to the, the body, that whole idea. We have, we have a body here at the Mason Church of Christ, we're the we're the body and Mason Christ Christ body here as the head. And we we have our issues we have, we have our troubles, and not all the not all the parts function like they should. But I think I can say this, that God in His in His omniscience, in His providence providentially speaking, he has everything every one in place here. Every one is here to make this body function the way it's supposed to. Now, with that said, they may not be a part of the body yet. But I think I can say that they're here. They're here. And if we do our part to to get to get those member parts together the way they should be. Then the body at Mason will function in a in a just like just like that orchestra in the way that God wants in the way that he's prescribed. It's a it's a it's a beautiful illustration, isn't it? It's a wonderful illustration. It's it it really, when you when you think it through it really makes sense, doesn't it? God. Of course, God's the one that did this. He's the one that chose the metaphor. He chose all of these metaphors didn't end and they're just perfect. That that is our God. The more and more that I study God's Word. The more and more I'm amazed at the the illustrations that that not not that not that I came up with not that some preacher came up with, but but the illustrations that God put together the the the the farmer applications, so many farmer applications aren't there. And folks who folks who understand farming really, I mean they really get it, don't they? The the faith faithful farmers of the Lord's church really, they really appreciate those. Those farming illustrations. You've got the the athletic illustrations so good. The race, the race day Evan, it's not a sprint, it's a marathon. And in we've got to work till the end. And we've got to have, we've got to, we've got to build up our endurance and and continue till the end, all the way to the end. And get that get that crown at the end. Get that prize at the end. God, God's word. God's word is just it's, it's incredible. It's divine, isn't it? There's nothing like it. There is no, no book like it. There is. There's nothing like God's word. It's, it's, it's in a total category of its own. Best Seller. It's always the best seller isn't it? It's always on the New York Times bestseller list. But it's it's special. God's word is special and, and he's left it for us. He's left it. For us to be to be that document. The Gospel message is God's power to save Romans 116 It is God's power to save. He's left a message. He's left his word. If I study it, if I study it with, with a love for the truth and an understanding that it is the truth, sanctify the by Thy truth I word is truth. Romans 1717 Excuse me, John 1717.

If I if I do that, if I go to it understanding it's the truth and I have a love for the truth and I want it. If you seek you will find God will save me. If I believe and obey His document, His Word, His words. And his word here was the one body there is one body there is one spirit. Number two is one spirit.

So I pointed this out, I think last time the point pointing out again, that in the seven ones, three of them are the Godhead. So that's a, that's a must for me. In order to have the unity of the Spirit, in this in this one body, we must all agree on the three members of the Godhead. They, they they must all be agreed upon and Understood, understood that they are one with three different members, three, three persons, one God, that that concept must be understood to be, it must be understood that this one spirit here is the Spirit of God, a spirit who, who was there in the beginning? We see him there in the beginning. You know, we we, we understand God the Father in the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. And then and then we understand from John chapter one that in the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God, and he was in the beginning with God. And we understand that later on that the Word became flesh and dwelt among us. We understand that word being the son. God had number two, the three, the the father being the one that the son being two, but there was a third member of the Godhead there. Also. We see him there at creation. The Spirit of God was hovering over the deep. If you remember one God, three persons this being one Spirit, the Holy Spirit The Holy Spirit of God is this is this one spirit. He's, he had he, he has and had many had many functions seem that he was he was the he was the one with the people was the the Spirit of God was in the cloud that that moved that move the, the, the Israelites when when he would move from place to place, the spirit was there. And then and then you get over the New Testament and you see Jesus. Jesus the the night before he died. He said, I'm going away. I'm leaving you. And I don't want you to worry about that. Let not your hearts be troubled. You believe in God believe also in Me. Because He goes on to say the that, that he's not going to leave them alone. He says I'm the way in truth and life and I'm gonna come back and get you. But But when I leave, I'm not leaving you alone. I'm going to, I'm going to send my Holy Spirit, a comforter, I'm going to send this comforter, I'm going to send the Spirit of truth. You're those those passages there that he that he mentions there the night before he died, when when he's when he's talking to them and tell him about the comforter, he's going to send the the Spirit of Truth, he'll bring you into all remembrance. Jesus says this, this Holy Spirit. So when Jesus left, when Jesus ascended into heaven, left this earth, to go be at the right hand of the father not not to return until the Second Coming. Until it's time to come get his to deliver to the Father. Until that time, he has left his spirit with us, a spirit that indwells us described as, as an indwelling Spirit, a a spirit that breathe these words. Holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit describe this, this is that one Spirit. That one, we've got one body, we've got one spirit and this one spirit is the Holy Spirit of God. And he's with us today. He's He's described as our guarantee to our our guests guarantee for heaven. He is the Holy Spirit, the one spirit. I quoted Second Peter 120 amendment moment ago, holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit.

He's he. So he is in Paul at this time. He is He is speaking through Paul to write the book of Ephesians. This, this, this is scripture, this scripture is inspired of God. And it's done by the Holy Spirit working through Paul. Christ left the Holy Spirit here to be that comforter, to be that spirit of truth to be one who would bring them into remembrance of all that I've told you. So here here as he's, as he's writing these ones, here in Ephesians, chapter four. This is the Holy Spirit, working through Paul, to leave us this document. To leave us Christ's words. These are described as the word of God or the word of Christ. The Holy Spirit was the agent used to to leave that for us to put it down inspired of God, the Holy Spirit of God. Okay, so we've, we've we've looked at one body, one spirit. About number three, there is one body one spirit, just as you were called to one hope at your core only one hope, one body one Spirit, one hope. What is that hope? Folks, if you if you peruse scripture, if you study your New Testament, if you study God's Word in its entirety, and you search for this hope it's only there's only one thing. And it's one hope. He's told us right here, there's one hope.

And you know what? It's not. It's not to get that better job. It's not to make my life better here on this earth. It's not to, to better myself. That's not the one hope. In fact, all of those in you'll hear, you'll hear preachers, oh, especially those TV, those TV evangelists, they get on and they, they tell you how great your life's gonna be. If you'll if you'll just come to Christ, if you'll come to know him, he's, he's gonna make everything better. He's gonna He's gonna get you that promotion. He's gonna He's gonna get you all, all that all that you want out of this life? No, no, never ever. Were we promised that. Never ever did Christ promise us the Rose Garden. In fact, Paul told Timothy, all who desire to live godly WILL suffer persecution. In fact, Anand is was told to go tell Paul, before he converted him, you go tell him how many things he must suffer for my namesake. Our one hope doesn't exist in this life. Our one hope is the hope of heaven. The hope of that mansion that he's prepared, that dwelling place that we quoted from John 14 A minute ago. Let not your hearts be troubled. You believe in God believe also in Me, In my Father's house are many mansions if it were not so I would have told you I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself that where I am there you may be also he's gone and prepared that dwelling place. King James version uses mansion there. And don't give him a hard time about that because you know that whatever dwelling Jesus prepared for us will be a mansion compared to anything here. That's the hope. I'm going to come back and get you he says that where I am there you may be also that hope is not in this earth and this place. It's in a place that he's prepared. And he's going to come back and get us come back and get his his kingdom he will deliver his kingdom the father first Corinthians 1524 That's the hope that's the one hope and notice, notice the one a weenie just like one body and one Spirit.

There is one hope don't don't it just it It bothers me these these folks that that get on and and they're selling their books and your best life now. That's the name of one of the books and and the dude has sold millions and millions and he's made millions and millions telling people you can have your best life now. If you if you follow Christ if you turn to Him, if you if you make him Lord, never in Scripture do we find that? You know, you know what we will? What promise we have in this life in Christ gave it to us in Matthew chapter six. In Matthew chapter six He said, Don't worry about what you will eat, what you will wear? What you the necessities? Don't Don't worry about the necessities. Let let worry take care of itself let let tomorrow. Let tomorrow be tomorrow, let tomorrow take care of itself. Don't Don't worry about it be be like the birds in the air, who God takes care of be like the flowers in the field that God takes care of. God totally takes care of them. He says don't worry about your necessities. Because Matthew 633 If you seek first the kingdom of God, and His righteousness, all these things will be added unto you. Matthew 633 What are these things, the context there is of necessities. Food, shelter, clothing, all those will be taken care of by God, if, if that two letter word is all over scripture that I don't even like hearing the unconditional stuff that people talk about. They throw around unconditional like, like, like it's candy. If If you seek first the kingdom of God, and seek first His righteousness, He will take care of all your needs, all your needs, not your wants. Not your desires but all your needs food, shelter, clothing. That's, that's the promise that Christ has made to us regarding earthly things. Any anything above that is just a plus. In fact, sometimes it's a curse, isn't it? The the rich fellow that has much more than his needs, which which she, he probably got from God, in some way or another can become his curse, because he's, it's harder for him to get to him and then it is the poor guy. This is a whole other study, isn't it? But but all just understand. With all that we've said about this, there's one hope. And it's the hope of heaven. It's the hope of one day, living with him forever. We which which by the way, is enough? What do you mean? It's enough that one hope is enough to satisfy me, to satisfy me with with anything that might come my way in this life.

Paul, Paul asked for a thorn in the flesh to be taken away. He asked three times, said Corinthians chapter 12. He asked three times directly to God. Would you please take away this thorn in the flesh that I have? And God said, No. He said, For My grace is sufficient for you. Or my love and the hope of heaven is sufficient for you. That heavenly home, that mansion in the sky. That eternal life is enough. That one hope is enough for me to deal with anything that comes my way here. To stay faithful to him throughout his grace is sufficient for me. With that one hope being being the prize being that that crown mentioned the mentioned the athlete in the race earlier, the one who wins the race gets the crown. Our crown is that crown of life. Paul said toward the end of his life, he said, I have fought the good fight. I have kept the faith. I have finished the race. Now, there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness. What's that crown of righteousness? I mentioned here on Earth, new. No, no, no, no, no, no. It's a home in heaven. And eternal home in heaven. The one hope. What a beautiful hope. And we need to continue to preach that hope. Folks need understand that hope.

I, I see. I see the gospel. All around. being watered down so much watered down with false teaching. once saved always saved faith only. Faith only salvation. watered down so much to to there's there's nothing. I have no responsibility. The gospel has been watered down so much that I have no responsibility. And all that's left to preaches is your best life now. Because we're all going to heaven. Everybody's going to heaven anyway. All you got to do is say that say that prayer as Jesus come into your heart, you're saved. You can't lose your salvation, you're going to heaven. So what's what's left? We have to make up these other hopes. Your best life now? Ridiculous.

Our one hope is that hope of heaven? To live with Him forever. And what a wonderful hope it is. Okay, so let's, let's look at number four. So there's one body, one spirit, one hope. One, Lord. Number four is Lord, there is one, Lord. Who is that in this passage? It's of course, the, the second member of the Godhead. That is Jesus, Jesus, the second member of the Godhead. His his pre incarnate name was the word.

In the beginning was the Word. The Word was with God and the Word was God and, and he was in the beginning with God. And without him there was nothing made that was made. That's that second member of the Godhead. That's the One Lord. John chapter one, verse 1212, or 14, that the Word became flesh, and he dwelt among us. We understand when we get when we get down into that chapter a little further, who, who's being referred to there? Who that word is. That's our Lord. That's our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He, he, the Son of God became flesh. He became a human. He came down from heaven, from the glory, from the glory in the riches in the wealth of heaven. He came down to the earth and became flesh. And oh, by the way, he he, he wasn't, he wasn't on the rich side of the Earth was he? He was born into poverty. Only only God writes this script. The Son of God came to this earth and became a man and he wasn't royalty. He was born in a barn. He was wrapped in rags because his parents couldn't afford anything more. And there was no room at the end. And the Son of God was born in a barn and lived in, in relative poverty. You would have to say, a worker, he was a carpenter. He didn't. Scripture tells us he, he didn't have a place to lay his head. He didn't have anything of his own. And by the way, he he had none of those aspirations did he? He lived 33 years. You know, that 16 1718 year old kid gets he he gets aspirations Debney I want to, I want to be the best carpenter in Jerusalem. I want to I want to have my own business. Jesus didn't have aspirations like that. In fact, we even talk like that we we, we sound crazy knowing that sounds crazy, and you won't even laugh, laugh at it. Why is that? Because he's here to back to heaven. And he knew that. And if we, if we could grasp that, we just talked about the one hope, didn't we? If we could grasp that one hope and understand about that one hope we would we wouldn't let anything in this life distract us from getting to heaven. That wonderful place. So one, Lord is the Son of God is Jesus. He's the second member of the Godhead.

He came down from heaven. It was a plan. That God worked out before the foundation of the world. The plan that he would come here to save us from ourselves, to save us from sin. Because we would sin, but he loved us so much. For God so loved the world. That he gave Jesus, He gave His Son that we can one day live with Him forever. That's the One Lord. He is the One Lord, the second member of the Godhead, Jesus Christ. We quoted earlier from John 14, let's do it again. And we'll we'll we'll finish. We'll finish out the quote.

Let not your hearts be troubled. You believe in God believe also in Me, In my Father's house are many mansions, if it were not, so I would have told you, I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare that place for you, I will come again and get you and take you to where where the father is that where I am there you may be also to that dwelling place. Thomas steps in and then says, we don't know the way Jesus we don't know the way he says I am the Way and the Truth and the Life and no man comes to the Father except by me. That's the One Lord. That is the One Lord of Ephesians chapter four. Let's pray. Our dear God in heaven we thank you so much for these ones and and as we continue to study them we pray dear father, that that we can understand and and understand the the the unity of the Spirit and the bond of peace. Dear God, we thank you so much for your word and what it means to us and we love you and it's in Jesus name we pray, Amen.
